(nla) Andrasch Starke gewinnt die Belmont Gold Cup Stakes mit Loft!

Es waren nur wenige Tage her, wo Andrasch Starke von der deutschen Rennleitung bestraft wurde, weil er die Peitsche einmal zu viel einsetzte und somit das Derby-Meeting in Hamburg-Horn sausen lassen muss.

Andrasch Starke entschädigte sich prompt und gewinnt für Gestüt Ittlingen's Loft die Belmont Gold Cup Stakes mit einer Gesamtdotierung von 400.000 US Dollar.

"Es war sehr viel Speed in der Partie und ich habe lange gewartet. Im Schlussbogen wusste ich bereits, dass wir eine sehr gute Chance haben", so Starke nach dem Rennen. Auf die Frage, wie er zu diesem Ritt gekommen ist, antwortete er: "Zuletzt saß Rene Piechulek im Sattel, aber er hatte Probleme mit seinem Visum, so wurde ich gefragt. Loft ist ein Champion auf der Steherdistanz!". Starke war zuletzt 2002 im Belmont Park.

“Amazing [performance],” Weiss said. “If we have the chance, we will come back."

Starke said a patient trip was key.

“I saw there was a lot of space and the front horses were already under pressure,” Starke said. “I didn’t want to go so wide, but I still waited during the last turn and moved to the outside. He was making up ground well. There was a lot of pace during the race and I trusted my horse,” he continued. “I didn’t want to get in a hurry. I was traveling well around the bend. I had a horse in front of me and I had to shift out. He made no consequences and he ran a good race.”
